Chell Instruments launch microDAQ-INT-4 interface to increase measurement points for complex projects

Experts in gas measurement and control technology, Chell Instruments, have launched the microDAQ-INT-4 interface which can combine up to 4 of the company’s industry-leading pressure scanner units at any one time.

Designed for the Chell Instruments microDAQ and nanoDAQ product ranges, the interface enables multiple pressure scanners to be interconnected and simultaneously collect data from more measurement points.

It can be used to connect the scanners to the host system via Ethernet or CAN.

“The complexity of modern projects often requires a more diverse network of measurement points than even what our 64 channel devices can deliver. In response, we’ve created an interface which makes it easy to combine existing Chell products to deliver the scale of measurements needed” says Jamie Shanahan, Director of Chell Instruments.

The microDAQ-INT-4 is a 4-way hub which also provides power to the connected devices via DC power or Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). The latter enables the interface and scanners to be powered simply by connecting the microDAQ-INT-4 to a PoE enabled switch.

By simultaneously connecting up to 4 pressure scanners, each with up to 64 channels, the microDAQ-INT-4 can gather up to 256 points of measurement.

The data can then be consolidated and transferred to the user’s system via the built in Ethernet and CAN hub.

“Like most areas of technology, there’s increasing demand for greater flexibility and ease of use in an all-in-one package that can be adapted to any application. The microDAQ-INT-4 is a compact solution that enable users to get even more from our scanners in a range of environments” adds Jamie.

The compact dimensions of the microDAQ-INT-4, coupled with the small size of the microDAQ and nanoDAQ devices it supports, makes it ideal for both wind tunnel and on-vehicle use.

In active test environments, the Ethernet, CAN, trigger and DC power (if required) can be connected simultaneously via the integrated micro ‘D’ type connector.

For bench-top use, the Ethernet can also be connected via the RJ45 connector.

“Accuracy is at the heart of everything we deliver at Chell Instruments and the microDAQ-INT-4 is developed on the same exacting principles. It ensures the absolute integrity of the data it receives and transmits from the DAQs it connects and powers” adds Jamie.

The microDAQ-INT-4 is compatible with IEEE PTPv2 precision time protocol, but it does not contain a boundary clock service. The resultant jitter of the precision time protocol service is less than ±1μS.

It also features a buffered hardware trigger and 100Mbit unmanaged Ethernet switch.
